Day 12 - At sea, again

Over last night and all day today we were in very heavy seas with high waves and swell.  Neither of us got much sleep and not many came to breakfast or lunch.  Lots of rain and snow so havent been outside until late afternoon when things calmed a little.

Arrival at South Georgia had been delayed until Tuesday morning as the Fram continues to battle the seas.

The first lecture was from the on board scientist who is studying the migration of humpback whales who gave details of the results of the samples taken on Antarctica.

This was followed by an interesting talk on Plate Tectonics by the on-board Geologist.

I managed a session in the gym but it was a weird sensation in the heavy swell.

There was a lovely cocktail waiting for us at dinner time together with a heart shaped cake for dessert  to celebrate Valentines day.

The last lecture was about Shackletons lost men - those that sailed to the other side of Antarctica in the Aurora to lay supplies for Shackleton when he crossed the south Pole.

If we land in South Georgia as planned tomorrow then we have our first excursion at 9.00 am.

Some videos that show the sea conditions today.
