Day 19 - Stanley, Falkland Islands

We went out on deck at 6.30 to watch our approach into Stanley Harbour where we docked an hour later.  There were good views of the hills around the town where the battles took place towards the end of the Falklands War in 1982.

We were booked on a coach tour at 9.30 so went for a short walk along the waterfront as soon as the gangplank was down and we were told we could leave the ship.

The 2 hour tour was very good and took us to some places a little far out of the town as well as important sites in the town.

We then visited the Dockyard Museum before walking around the town and visiting various shops.  We had lunch at the Victory Inn and tried the locally brewed beer.

It was a lovely warm day with plenty of sunshine and Stanley is a delightful little town to wander around.  Surprisingly it is the same latitude south as London but has a much cooler climate.

We saw some of the birds of the Falklands in and around the town.

We arrived back at the ship at 16.15, just half an hour before our deadline.  Just as we were going to dinner there was a very nice sunset over the outer islands.

After dinner there was a demonstration of napkin and towel folding that the hospitality team do in our rooms and on the dining table.  Here are some of my efforts.

    1. He didn't want to know how to make Polar Bears from towels so went back to the cabin.
